The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me on what I hope is an exciting adventure!

An inspirational quote from Mark Twain to start my blog:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Well I haven’t exactly caught the trade winds yet, but I have in fact thrown off the bow lines. The first bow line was being tied to a house. As of 31 August my house is sold and all my worldy possessions are in a 16 foot POD. After 10 years of living in a house the quest to declutter loomed large, but thanks to some amazing family and friends it all came together and the bowlines are off. When I arrived in Columbus in 1995, I expected to be in this safe harbor for 3 years.  Well here I am 23 years and a lifetime of experiences later, and it is time to sail away.  I’m spending the next few weeks tying up a 35 year career and then I’m off to Italy sharing the retirement celebration, including a bit of Chianti, with 18 amazing fellow adventurers.

BTW about 100 people have said I “need” to blog about my adventures so I am giving it a shot.  It’s all new to me so no promises on quality and frequency.  I might be too busy having fun, or my luddite electronic capabilities might kick in, but we’ll see how this goes. Hopefully the next post will be from Tuscany! Ciao!
