Cape Town, South Africa

The 12 Apostles Peaks in Cape Town

Rather than eating Turkey I spent my Thanksgiving winging my way to Cape Town, South Africa for the start of a Grand African adventure along the west coast of the continent.

High Tea in the gardens of Mount Nelson
A bonus wedding, fashion show and concert in the beautiful gardens
A white Namibian Pelican visited the catamaran and made friends
A little too attracted to the fish handout

The catamaran ride was billed as an opportunity to see seals, in fact there were 60,000 loud, smelly, chest bumping, mating seals. The experience should have had an R rating for the up close and personal experience.

Bottle nosed Dolphins put on a great show and after taking 100 pictures that were just water I finally captured a good jump.

I’m on a 27 day cruise that started in Cape Town and ends in Ft Lauderdale just before Christmas. After I completed my 7 continent goal in February my next goal was to see 100 countries. Happy to say this wandering on the west coast of Africa will get me to that goal by the end of the month. I wonder what I will find for the next challenge and goal – much to contemplate in 2024 when my wings are clipped as I wait for a renewed passport. My passport doesn’t expire until 2027 but I have filled all my pages and am actually holding my breath there is enough space to get me through the next 5 countries. Cross your fingers or it will be quite a story if I get abandoned in the Ivory Coast or Senegal. I’ll let you know how that goes on my next post.

  1. I am traveling vicariously through you. What a wonderful trip. We’ll have to have a photo night when you get home.
    Stay safe.
