An Indian Safari and Village Visit

We went on a Safari in Ranthambore National Park via a 18 passenger open jeep. We spotted Monkeys and deer and exotic birds but for nearly 3 hours no tigers. Just as we were getting bored and our patience waning, the magic happened. We were heading out of the park and the tigers headed out of the gate right towards us. There was a scramble as startled jeep drivers jockeyed to get the best vantage point but the tigers calmly padded through it all. Seeing 1 tiger that close would have been exciting, but seeing 4 felt like a miracle.

Village School Kids
Fellow traveler Pam communicated via cell phone

This trip I’m with Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) and they sponsor a great program that gives back to the areas where their trips run. For this trip, we visited a remote village and school that receives support from the Grand Circle Foundation. The interaction with the kids was very genuine as they practiced their English and we found ways to communicate. We felt like celebrities as the kids wanted to shake our hands and high five. The group cooked a pasta meal with ketchup that the kids gobbled up and then it was off to school. We visited the school where the kids sat on the ground writing their lessons on their backpacks. There was a lot of opportunity to provide help and the school is gathering a list of their most needed items. The school staff was very impressive and dedicated. It was a rare opportunity to make a person to person connection.
